A perfect Highland afternoon is about to go very wrong. In McLurcher™ Stolen Picnic, a distinguished Highland laird has settled on a heather-covered hillside with a tartan rug, a wicker hamper and a flask of tea, with a loch, a wooded islet and a distant castle spread out below him. Then the McLurcher strikes.
Our laird sits sprawled on the rug in his tweed jacket, waistcoat and tartan kilt, his feathered bonnet slightly askew and his white hair on end. His tea cup is still in his hand, its contents flying through the air. One arm is flung out towards the culprit and his face is a picture of utter disbelief. The hamper has toppled, the shortbread is scattered and the plates and spoons lie where they fell. A jar of Scottish raspberry preserve and a gingham napkin complete the scene of devastation.
Bounding away across the hillside is the McLurcher, a shaggy white lurcher with a gleaming collar and a look of pure triumph. Gripped firmly in his jaws is the laird’s sandwich, napkin and all, and he has no intention of stopping.
Behind the chaos, the Highland landscape is painted in rich detail: purple heather in full bloom, golden grasses, tall Scots pines, a still blue loch, an old stone bridge and a castle on a wooded islet beneath a sweep of blue mountains.
Warm, witty and full of Highland character, McLurcher™ Stolen Picnic will be instantly familiar to anyone who has ever turned their back on a sandwich in the presence of a dog.
